I removed the parent pom, updated all dependencies/plugins to latest available release (that are not milestones) and removed some pluginManagement that did not seem necessary. I used this pom.xml as a reference to what is needed.
Please let me know if the plugins I removed from pluginManagement are actually needed by the snapshot/release builds.
